Cell lines

Bioworld Consulting Laboratories made the following cell lines are available for research purposes via the HHV-6 Foundation (http://www.hhv-6foundation.org/). Request for the cell lines should be directed to the foundation.

For academic research the cell lines are free.

For commercial purposes a special Material Transfer agreement need to be signed.

HSB-ML

!

HSB-2M a tetraploid T-cell line derived from HBS-2 cell line, infected with the GS strain of HHV-6 and selected in long term culture for latency. Established in 1992.

It contains between 2-5 latent HHV-6 genomes integrated into chromosomes. Non inducible with chemical agents.

The cell line expresses at least one latent viral antigen detected by some human serum and also with monoclonal antibody (clone WL-5)

HSB-F

!

HSB-2 T-cell line, infected with the GS strain of HHV-6 and selected in long term culture for latency. Established in 1991.

It contains between 10-30 latent HHV-6 genomes integrated into chromosomes. Inducible with chemical agents (see Table above).

The cell line express at least one latent viral antigen detected by some human serum and also with monoclonal antibody (clone WL-5)

HSB-M

!

HSB-2M a tetraploid T-cell line derived from HBS-2 cell line, infected with the GS strain of HHV-6 and selected in long term culture for latency. Established in 1992.

It contains between 20-40 latent HHV-6 genomes integrated into chromosomes. Inducible with chemical agents (see Table above). It also expresses viral antigens associated with the lytic cyle in 1-2% of the cells.

The cell line expresses at least one latent viral antigen detected by some human serum and also with monoclonal antibody (clone WL-5)

END-HHV-6

!

Primary endothelial cells from umbilical coord (HUVEC), infected with the GS strain of HHV-6 and selected in long term culture for latency. Established in 1991.

It contains between 2-5 latent HHV-6 genomes integrated into chromosomes. Non inducible with chemical agents.

Tumorgenic in nude mice.

ST-7

!

SUP-T1 T-cell line, infected with the RK strain of HHV-7 and selected in long term culture for latency. Established in 1993.

It contains between 5-10 latent HHV-7 genomes integrated into chromosomes. Weekly inducible with chemical agents (see Table above).

The cell line expresses at least one latent viral antigen detected by some human serum.
